Who would have thought we would sit in front of our own desktops, laptops, or mobile devices to watch 45-minute-long videos of beauty talk and fashion advice. Even more shocking, we watch these beauty vloggers religiously and trust in their advice although most have no formal training. What makes these beauty gurus so influential? Is it their own flawless foundation, perfect winged eyeliner, or could it be their devoted fan base?
2016 has been a year of success for many influencers. It has also shown us what makes these YouTubers stand out from any other person with a camera. These vloggers have only just begun. Some have landed major deals and others have created their very own makeup and clothing lines. So we decided to find out which vloggers were the most influential this past year, and how they landed such a prestigious title. In order to determine which ones ranked amongst the highest, I took note of their following and their accomplishments.

Dulce Candy’s background alone draws people in because of its fullness. She emigrated to U.S. from Mexico, served in the military in Iraq, and was featured asking undocumented immigrants during the Republican debate in January. She has come a long way and proven YouTubers can influence the lives of many. Her following is over two million on YouTube alone, she has published a book called The Sweet Life, and has worked with big beauty brands like L’Oréal, CoverGirl, Dyson Hair, and Pond’s.
He was big during the MySpace days, and he remains to be the talk of the town during the YouTube days. Patrick Starrr is known for his hilarious transformation videos. His makeup skills are extremely professional too. He has over 1.8 million follower on YouTube, has partnered with brands like Benefit Cosmetics, Formula X, Jouer, NYX, among others. Now he and OG vlogger Nicole Guerriero (who is on this list too) are working on something special with Anastasia Beverly Hills.
Carli of The Beauty Bybel has been around since 2011. She currently has over five million subscribers on YouTube, over 4 million followers on Instagram, nearly 3 million followers on Facebook, and almost 500k followers on Twitter! We think it’s safe to say she’s extremely influential. During her many years in the vlogging business she has created her own makeup palette with BH Cosmetics, and has branched out into fashion. Last year she collaborated with Missguided and debuted her very own clothing line packed with 50 pieces.
Jaclyn is well known for her flawless highlighting techniques, but you might recognize her name from her collaboration with Becca Cosmetics on the limited-edition Champagne Pop. The product was a huge success which evidently boosted Hill’s following. She currently has 3.8 million subscribers on YouTube. Since her first collab with Becca, she and the company have expanded the collection with a number of permanent products.
Not only is she known for her killer makeup skills, but she is also known for her brutally honest personality — which her 926k subscribers love. She has worked with Artist Couture, Sigma Beauty, and has done sponsorships with big brands like Maybelline and Jouer.
For Nicole Guerriero, it just keeps getting better and better. After being and avid vlogger for more than six years, she has accumulated nearly 3 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 266 million views. To top it off (as we mentioned above) she announced a collaboration with Anastasia Beverly Hills. In the past Guerriero has worked with brands like GlamGlow, The Estée Edit, and Bellami Hair.
With over 2.8 million subscribers at just twenty-four-years-old, Kathleen Lights has already accomplished so much. She has launched her own nail polish line called KL Polish. Lights has also collaborated with Morphe on a palette, with Makeup Geek Cosmetics on a highlighter palette, and an eyeshadow collection with ColourPop.
Famous for her J-Lo features, Desi Perkins has garnered the respect of the beauty world with her fabulous makeup skills. With over two million subscribers on YouTube, she is popular for her variety of tutorials. She does it all, from makeup to hair, special effects, and more. She’s extremely talented and her loyal fans know it. She has worked with Quay Australia, Crest, MAC Cosmetics, Benefit Cosmetics, and Kohl’s, among many more.
Beauty guru Laura Lee has an insane amount talent and knowledge when it comes to beauty products, tutorials, and hacks. With more than two million subscribers to back her skills up, she has worked with Maybelline, Revlon, and Smashbox. Recently she has worked with Too Face to help launch their Sweet Peach palette.
Another well-known beauty boy (along with his BFF Patrick Starrr) is Manny! He and other “beauty boys” have overcome gender norms, barriers, and preconceived notions of makeup. With over two million followers, his subscriber list is constantly growing. Manny shows much of his personality through his videos, while giving exceptional makeup tutorials every week. He has worked with Benefit Cosmetics, Maybelline, and GlamGlow. He has also launched a collaboration with Makeup Geek.
