Dan Auerbach, of The Black Keys, has released a new song with his second band The Arcs. The new track was inspired by the Netflix original crime series ‘Making A Murderer’.
‘Making A Murderer’ was recently released on Netflix and follows the story of two men who were put on trial and convicted. Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey are currently serving life sentences for an alleged murder.
Since before the show aired, it has been making headlines left and right. Now, Auerbach’s side project have shared a new track titled ‘Lake Superior’. The song was inspired by the story of the two men.
Any profit the band makes from the song will be donated to the Innocence Project, a nonprofit organization that helps the wrongly convicted.
Along with the song, the band released a statement:
“It’s like Billy Childish says, ‘We live in troubled times’. Last week, we got a sneak peek at what goes on behind the curtains of our criminal justice system. A few sleepless nights later we gathered in the studio and wrote this song.”
There are currently two petitions going around aimed at getting President Barack Obama to pardon Avery and Dassey.
