Former One Direction member, Zayn Malik has ventured off into the solo world.
The singer has repeatedly made headlines discussing his past with 1D and how branching off on his own has been the best musical decision he’s made so far.
Malik recently shared news of his debut album in an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1. Malik said he wrote over 45 songs for the album, but only 17 or 18 would make it on the record.
“I’m feeling excited, I’m feeling nervous, I’m feeling happy – I’ve finally got to do what I wanted to do… It’s kind of just like waiting for Christmas,” Malik told Lowe.
The singer’s first solo single, ‘Pillowtalk’, was released today along with a music video featuring his supposed model girlfriend Gigi Hadid. The two are shown embracing each other in the dreamy kaleidoscopic visual.
Since he began his solo journey last year, Malik has cut off communication from his former pop bandmates, and has remained true to his musical roots.
“I genuinely enjoyed [the band] and did whatever I could to be myself within that, but it’s just not where I sit as a musician,” he told Billboard. “The other boys’ taste was generally indie rock. It’s good music, but I don’t fuck with it. That was never cool where I was from.”
The sultry and sexy moments prove ‘Pillowtalk’ is all about sex. Malik explained the meaning behind his suggestive lyrics in an interview with the Sunday Times.
“Everybody has sex, and it’s something people wanna hear about. It’s part of everybody’s life, a very big part of life,” he said in the interview.
Pillowtalk is available on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and Amazon.
